Northern Cyprus - TRNC
Northern Cyprus, the jewel of the Mediterranean, provides a most hospitable welcome with its friendly people and great natural beauty, which is unspoilt, unpolluted and uncrowded. It is one of the few unspoilt corners in the Mediterranean world with miles of coastline - golden sands bathed in sunshine almost everyday of the year.
The island is the third largest in the Mediterranean and dates back 200 million years. Neolithic remains have shown that this paradise has been inhabited since the New Stone Age. Its strategic position has meant that Cyprus has had many rulers over the centuries. Gothic churches rub shoulders with crusader castles and ruined temples with British Colonial in a fascinated blend of styles.
The island enjoys one of the healthiest and most pleasant climates in the world, it is possible to sunbathe almost every day and to swim in the clean and clear blue sea. There are approximately 3,350 hours of sunshine a year with a little chance of rain between May and October. The pace of life is relaxed and violent crime almost unknown. A large part of the island is covered with citrus and olive groves, pine forests and cypresses. All Mediterranean fruits are here in abundance, from olive groves to grapes, from vegetables to every kind of citrus. Mimosa, hibiscus and oleander are to seen in abundance among a wide range of wild flowers.
The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus covers about one-third of the island. It consists of four major towns, the capital Lefkosa (Nicosia), serves as the main administration and business centre, Gazi Magusa (Famagusta), the country's principal port, Girne (Kyrenia), the main tourist centre and Güzelyurt the centre of the citrus fruit
industry.
